Tips for preventing slips and trips in the workplace

Regardless of your position, responsibilities or place of business, nothing changes the fact that you could suffer an injury on the job at some point. While most workers are able to avoid this, there is no guarantee that you can do the same.

Slips and trips are among the most common workplace accidents. You need to understand the common causes of these accidents, as this knowledge will help you avoid trouble.

Here are some of the many things you can do to prevent a slip or trip:

  • Watch where you are walking at all times
  • Clean up any spills or debris, as this can keep both you and your coworkers safe
  • Keep hallways and walkways clear
  • Replace burnt-out light bulbs
  • Talk to your employer about any trip hazards that concern you

The final point is one that you definitely need to consider. For example, if you realize that a particular piece of flooring is dangerous, such as carpeting that sticks up, you should ask your employer if they can repair or replace this safety hazard. This is one of the best things you can do to prevent trouble in the future.

If you are involved in a slip or trip accident at work, you should report the incident to your employer and then seek medical attention. Don’t assume that you can treat your injury at home, as this is not always the case.

If your medical team tells you to get rest and take time away from work, you’ll want to learn more about filing a claim for workers’ compensation benefits.
