Medical conditions caused by construction accidents

As a construction worker, you know there is more than one type of accident that could result in serious injury or even death.

However, what you may not realize is the type of medical conditions that could result from a construction site accident. Here is a short list of some of the most common:

  • Fractures or broken bones
  • Amputation of a limb, such as a toe or finger
  • Lacerations or cuts
  • Burns
  • Eye injuries, including full or partial blindness
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Loss of hearing
  • Shoulder, ankle or knee injuries
  • Toxic exposure
  • Spinal cord trauma
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Concussion

As you can see, some of these injuries are more serious than others. For example, a traumatic brain injury could impact you for the rest of your life. A broken bone, however, will eventually heal, allowing you to take back your life as you once knew it.

If you are part of a construction site accident, regardless of the cause, you should immediately call for medical help. You’ll want to receive treatment as quickly as possible, as this improves your chance of making a full recovery.

Also, take the time to report the accident and your injuries to your employer, as you want to make it clear that you were injured on the job.

Once you receive treatment and have a basic idea of what the future holds, you should then turn your attention to your ability to receive compensation. The best way of doing so is to learn more about the workers’ compensation system and how you fit in.
