There may come a time when you need to use scaffolding to complete a job. For example, this is necessary if you need to work at height for an extended period of time.

Unfortunately, a scaffolding accident can happen at any time. This is why you need to become familiar with a few important safety tips. Here are some to keep in mind at all times:

  • Only install and use scaffolding in the intended manner
  • Never use scaffolding that is defective or broken
  • Lock wheels in place before using
  • Place scaffold on solid and level ground
  • Remove any debris from the ground surrounding the scaffolding
  • Make others aware that you will be working on scaffolding
  • Take caution when using tools on scaffolding, as you don’t want to drop them to the ground below
  • Never attempt to use scaffold in dangerous weather, such as high winds or driving rain

If you do these things, you’ll find it much easier to feel good about remaining safe when setting up and using scaffolding.

However, even if you do everything you should, it’s still possible that you could be part of a scaffolding accident. For example, you could slip when working on the edge of the scaffolding, thus resulting in a fall to the ground below.

It’s important to know the ins and outs of scaffolding safety. If something goes wrong, stay where you and wait for medical help to arrive. Once you have an idea of your injuries, you can decide if you’re able to file a workers’ compensation claim. You may be entitled to receive benefits until you can return to your job.
