What do you do to stay safe in rush hour traffic?

There is nothing worse than sitting in rush hour traffic. All you want to do is make your way home or to the office, but there’s no alternative but to creep forward one foot at a time.

While it sounds simple enough to stay safe in rush hour traffic, especially when traffic is moving slowly, this is not always the case. Every day, there are accidents at rush hour that lead to serious injury, property damage and even death.

Here are some of the many things you can do to improve your safety in rush hour traffic:

  • Leave more time in your schedule. The only thing worse than sitting in rush hour traffic is doing so when you are in a hurry (maybe because you left home late).
  • Avoid distractions. It’s easy to become distracted in rush hour traffic, but you don’t want to fall into this trap. It only takes one minor distraction to cause a major accident.
  • Stay in one lane. You may think you can make better time by jumping from one lane to the next, but this won’t get you anywhere any faster. You should choose your lane and stay in it.

By following these tips, you’ll find it much easier to drive in a safe and confident manner during rush hour traffic.

If you are part of an accident, such as if another vehicle strikes yours from behind, you need to move to safety and call for help. This is particularly important if you have suffered an injury, as immediate treatment may be able to help you avoid long-term pain and discomfort.
