If you are injured on the job in the state of New York, there is a good chance that you will take some time to learn more about the workers’ compensation system. You don’t want to delay in doing so, as this could harm your ability to receive an approval.

After seven days away from your job, the workers’ compensation system in New York will provide the following:

  • A maximum payment of two-thirds of your weekly salary
  • Reimbursement for any medical care related to the work injury

While these are the most common benefits under the New York workers’ compensation system, you may qualify for others. These include:

  • Social Security Disability. If you suffer a permanent disability or are expected to be away from work for 12 months or more, you may be able to receive this benefit in addition to your regular payment.
  • Unemployment insurance. While not common, you may be able to receive unemployment insurance along with workers’ compensation.
  • Union benefits. If you belong to a union, you may be able to receive disability benefits along with workers’ compensation.
  • Private disability. This comes into play if you have purchased your own long-term or short-term disability insurance policy.

At our law firm, we take great pride in helping our clients understand the many benefits that they can receive after suffering an on-the-job injury or illness.

The New York workers’ compensation system is more complicated than it appears, so you need to be on your toes at all times. The more information you collect, the easier it is to protect your legal rights in the event of a workplace injury.
