When using any type of power tool, it’s imperative that safety comes first. Even though you have a job to do, you don’t want to risk your safety along the way.

It only takes one mistake when using a power tool to cause a serious accident that leads to injury or even death. For example, a circular saw can cut off a finger. Along with this, falling off a ladder when holding a power drill could result in more than one type of injury.

Here are some of the most important power tool safety tips to follow:

— Read the instructions. Don’t use any power tool until you first read the instructions. This may sound like overkill, but it can go a long way in preventing injury.

— Check for safety. You should never use a power tool until you check that it’s completely safe to use. Any defect should be remedied before you move forward.

— Wear goggles. Neglecting to do so could lead to an eye injury, such as if a metal or wood chip goes airborne.

— Be alert at all times. You should never use a power tool if you are fatigued. This can result in cutting corners, which will put you at greater risk of injury.

Using power tools is a great way to complete a job in an efficient manner. Unfortunately, a mistake can cause an injury.

If you are injured by a power tool on the job, don’t wait to call for medical help and to report the accident to your employer. From there, depending on the circumstances, you may be able to file a claim for workers’ compensation benefits.
