A construction worker was hurt yesterday morning in a fall about 200 miles north of New York City, officials said.
After the fall in Herkimer, the man was flown by helicopter to a medical facility for treatment of his unspecified injuries, according to a media report.
The worker was reportedly injured after he fell from a roof while working on a construction project at a car dealership.
The report didn’t state how far the man fell and did not describe the extent of his injuries.
In an unrelated incident, a Rochester, New York, man was killed last week in an accident near a construction site, police said.
The man, 53 years old, was apparently collecting recyclable metal when he was crushed to death inside a large piece of machinery just before seven in the morning last Tuesday.
A Rochester Police Department spokesperson said the man had put his head and torso inside the machine in order to retrieve a piece of metal. He became trapped inside and was crushed, police said.
Paramedics were called to the scene at about 7:20, where they found the man unconscious. He was later pronounced dead there at the scene of the accident.
The man was not part of the construction crew working on renovating a nearby building.
However, the construction worker who fell and was injured certainly part of the crew at that project. Though we don’t know the extent of his injuries, we do know that most New York workers injured on the job are entitled to workers’ compensation.
