In New York, and across the county, there are men and women that dedicate their lives to constructing the buildings that allow our lives to function. Often, such a job can be dangerous, and at times, even fatal. It is critical that the rights of construction workers be protected.
Thursday, Feb. 22, a construction worker was killed on the job. He was crushed under rock, dirt and rubble in the aftermath of an earthen wall collapse. By the time the rescue crews arrived, the man was already fatally injured. The crew worked to extract the deceased victim.
It is tragic to think about how much life this man is missing out on. The man’s family could be entitled to compensation for this work place accident.
Construction accidents can happen in New York. If a New York construction worker is injured, this often puts him or her out of a job, and thereby, a source of income. Not only could an injured construction worker potentially be entitled to workers’ compensation, he or she could also have a personal injury claim which could entitle him or her to additional compensation.
Furthermore, injured construction workers need to be wary of investigators that come to visit them after an injury. Such investigators may seem very friendly, but they could be hired by a liable company that is seeking to give an individual less compensation than he or she may be entitled to. The first person that an injured construction worker in New York should consult is an experienced attorney as soon as possible.
